Men who cheat interestingly believe their women lack the moral capacity to do same, while women who cheat suspects their men are either doing same, had done it in the past, or would start anytime soon. They even backup this feelings by nosing around the men curiously even when there’s no evidence that the man is guilty (by the way, that’s one of the signs she’s into stuff).
Truly, no one in a marriage/relationship likes to, or deserves to be lied to or cheated on by the other partner no matter what. There’s a tacit global consensus that Lies, And Unfaithfulness (or cheating, as preferred by modern vocabulary) are the two most guilty in over 70% of breakups and divorces. There’s just one thing we all fear in a marriage/relationship: breakup (divorce, separation, etc).
The phrase “Irreconcilable Differences” is now used as both a cursory and acceptable reason to justify divorces, separations and breakups. I once considered the phrase as ‘alright’, but from many years of marriage/relationship counseling, I’ve seen practical events that questioned that phrase and even demystified it. Now I can boldly assert that, with the exception of cases of violence, there’s no differences that’s irreconcilable. In fact, some members of our counseling team still argue that even cases of violence can be reconciled.
Funnily, it appears that reconciliation (forgiveness, tolerance) is largely contingent on the ‘financial disposition, social statues, and formidability’ of the offender. For instance, we’ve seen that it’s easier to tolerate and forgive a richer, more independent partner that can do well without the other partner, than it is tolerating or forgiving the errors and shortcoming of a poorer, less formidable, or dependent partner.
While cheating and lying tops the list, we’ve seen couples fall apart because of other “weird” reasons.
Man divorces wife because of heavy snoring, and another fights her husband for eating spaghetti with his bare hands. 2 women in the same court, same judge and same week, files for divorce: one says husband’s genital is too small, and the other says husband’s genital is too big (true event).
We’ve seen some couples fall apart because of one ‘strong irreconcilable’ reason and another couple of same pedigree, with 10 times more issues, remain together and enjoying the union many years later.
There are many reasons why that may be possible, but we’ve discovered one that trumps them all…
